I got this recipe from a neighbor that I used to babysit for. I don't know where she found it.
Rolled Sugar Cookies
1 ½ cups sugar
1 1/3 cups butter, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
4-6 Tablespoons milk
Cream butter
and sugar together. Add eggs and
beat. Add vanilla, milk and dry
ingredients. Chill dough 2-3 hours. Divide dough into 4 sections. Roll one section on slightly floured cutting
board, about ¼ inch thick. Cut into
desired shapes. Place on slightly
greased baking sheet. Bake at 350
degrees for 8-10 minutes. Cool.
The cookie glaze recipe comes from a teacher that I worked with several years ago. I also do not know where she found it.
¼ cup boiling water
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
(Note: vanilla turns glaze brown, try to find a
clear extract)
¾ teaspoon almond extract
2 1/8 cups powdered sugar
Food coloring, if desired
Sprinkles
Mix together. May need to add more boiling water to make
the glaze thinner. Put waxed paper under
cooling racks. Dip cooled cookies into
glaze and place on cooling rack to dry.
If using sprinkles, dip 3-4 cookies and then add the sprinkles. The glaze sets fast, but takes one or more
hours to dry completely.
